Religion The third grade students will be using the We Believe series by Sadlier. The focus is on the Holy Trinity, the Universal Church, the History of the Catholic Church, and our role in the church. We will also study the different Liturgical seasons.
English We will be using the textbook English, which is published by Houghton Mifflin. The focus will be on basic sentence structure, grammar and mechanics, and parts of speech. We will also explore different types of writing.
Social Studies The third grade curriculum concentrates on the history and resources of Michigan as well as the impact that our great state has on our country.The students will also strengthen their mapping skills. New for the 2016-2017 school year the students will be using Meet Michigan, which is published by Hillsdale Press. Hillsdale Press is a Michigan company based in Grand Rapids. The text meets all state Social Studies standards and presents information in a student friendly manner.
Science Interactive Science is the textbook that we will be using and it's focus is on Life, Physical, and Earth science. We will also explore engineering and technology in the field of science.
Math Progress in Mathematics is the textbook that is used in math. The students will continue to strengthen their basic addition and subtraction skills and will be introduced to regrouping, multiplication, division, and fractions. We will also explore Geometry, and Probability and Statistics.
Reading The series that is used in reading is Journeys. This series concentrates on developing comprehension, fluency and making connections.
Spelling/Phonics We will look at the different spelling patterns and rules. The spelling words will reflect and support these items.
